Welcome to the Museum!

Dr. Tamara G. Shumnaya, Director of the Museum.

It's a great pleasure to invite you on behalf of the administration and the entire Museum's staff to the site of the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia.

Carrying out the work of collecting for almost 90 years, comprehensive scientific research based upon modern achievements of the history and allied sciences, creative conceptualization and application of stored knowledge and experience in different fields of museum's arrangement, thanks to all this the Museum became one of the biggest centers of learning for studying Russian civilization starting from the second half of the nineteenth century up to the present day. Historical sources and documentary records, which reflect social, political and economic history of our country, intellectual development of the society for the whole 150 years' period of its progress are collected, studied and exhibited in the Museum. At present the Museum has about 2 million historical and cultural records.

Let me hope that the site would give you a description of richness and diversity of our collections and of different forms of their utilization, of scientific and social programs and of many other different things. And I also hope that our "virtual" visitors would come as real visitors to the Museum of Contemporary History of Russia.
